Paint Protection Film (PPF) for cars is the most effective way to protect your paintwork against stone chips, scratches, and more!
Paint Protection Film (PPF) and ceramic coating are both popular ways to protect your car’s paintwork. They serve different purposes, and choosing the right one depends on how you use your vehicle and what level of protection you're looking for.
PPF is a physical, self-healing film that acts as a barrier between your car’s paint and the environment. It protects against stone chips, scratches, swirl marks and scuffs, making it ideal for track cars, daily drivers and vehicles exposed to harsh conditions.
Ceramic coating, is a liquid-based coating that bonds chemically with your car’s surface. It adds hydrophobic (water-repellent) and UV-resistant properties, making your car easier to clean while enhancing gloss, but it doesn’t provide the same level of physical impact protection as PPF.
In many cases, the best solution is to combine both. PPF for high-impact areas, and ceramic coating over the top for added gloss and ease of maintenance.
You can read a full breakdown of the pros and cons in our blog post: PPF or Ceramic Coating – Which is Better

PPF is designed to be as discreet as possible. We wrap edges wherever practical, and from around a metre away, most people won’t notice it at all. However, on close inspection, some edges may be visible depending on the vehicle and finish selected.
Yes, PPF can be applied over Magna Plates. However, in rare cases, magnetic mounts can cause film staining or bubbling. We recommend removing the plates before washing and allowing the area to dry fully before reinstalling.
For most modern vehicles, no. We use a high-precision plotter and pre-designed templates for clean, accurate installs. In some rare cases, trimming on the car may be required for custom work or older vehicles.
Some light moisture or installation marks can appear initially, especially in colder weather. These usually disappear after a few weeks with exposure to heat and regular use.
Yes, with an inspection and a care session at On Track Detailing. The service includes a wash and inspection and costs £149.
