BMW 2NH / CCB Gold Brake Caliper Painting

Restoring the BMW Gold Brake Caliper Finish

This BMW M3 came to us with its brake calipers already painted gold, but the existing colour was noticeably different from the distinctive gold finish associated with BMW's performance braking systems.

Rather than simply repainting them with a generic gold, we wanted to reproduce the original appearance as closely as realistically possible.

After developing and testing the colour, we produced a bespoke BMW 2NH / CCB-style satin gold finish which we estimate to be around a 98% visual match to the original factory colour.

This specialist colour-matching service forms part of our wider BMW detailing and protection services.

Matching BMW 2NH and CCB Gold

BMW's gold brake calipers are not simply a conventional bright metallic gold.

The colour, metallic appearance and satin finish all contribute to the way the factory calipers look, which is why an off-the-shelf gold paint can appear noticeably different once fitted behind the wheel.

The calipers on this M3 had previously been refinished, but the shade wasn't right.

Our aim was therefore not to create our own interpretation of gold, but to get as close as practically possible to the characteristic BMW appearance using an aftermarket refinishing process.

While we would never claim that an aftermarket repaint is chemically identical to BMW's original factory coating process, the finished colour provides an extremely close visual match.

Professional Brake Caliper Preparation and Respray

The quality of a brake caliper finish depends heavily on the preparation underneath it.

The existing surfaces were cleaned and prepared before the new colour was professionally sprayed in controlled stages.

Silver M-style brake caliper decals were then positioned to recreate the appropriate BMW appearance.

The completed calipers were sealed beneath a durable, heat-resistant 2K lacquer, protecting both the colour and decals from brake dust, road contamination and normal use.

You can see how we prepare, spray and finish calipers in more detail on our Brake Caliper Painting service page.

Correcting a Previously Painted BMW Caliper

This project is also a useful example of why brake caliper refinishing is not limited to rusty or faded factory calipers.

We regularly see previously painted calipers suffering from incorrect colour, poor preparation, fading, damaged decals or an uneven finish.

Provided the caliper itself is mechanically sound, an existing cosmetic finish can usually be prepared and refinished.

Our service is cosmetic brake caliper painting and refinishing rather than mechanical brake refurbishment. We do not rebuild pistons, seals or internal braking components as part of the painting process.

Part of a Larger BMW M3 Project

The brake caliper work formed part of a much larger project on this Individual Daytona Violet BMW M3.

The vehicle also received paint correction, Paint Protection Film, ceramic coating and additional detailing work while it was with us.

You can see the complete transformation in our BMW M3 Daytona Violet detailing and PPF project.

Being able to complete several services during the same visit means brake caliper refinishing can be combined with PPF, ceramic coating, paint correction or wheel protection rather than organising several separate appointments.
