This Alpina D3 came to our Berkshire detailing studio for a comprehensive programme of cosmetic restoration and protection.
Rather than concentrating on one area of the car, the work covered the paintwork, headlights and underside, allowing us to improve its overall condition while protecting some of the areas most exposed to future deterioration.
The main part of the project was a two-stage paint correction, followed by professional ceramic protection. The headlights were also restored and protected with Paint Protection Film, while the underside received cleaning and protective treatment.
The paintwork showed the usual accumulation of swirl marks, wash damage and surface defects that gradually reduce clarity and gloss.
A two-stage correction gave us considerably more scope than a simple enhancement polish. The first machine-polishing stage was used to reduce the more noticeable defects, followed by a finer refining stage to improve clarity, gloss and the overall finish.
As with every Paint Correction project, the objective is not to remove clear coat unnecessarily in pursuit of every final mark. We aim for the best sensible improvement while preserving the long-term integrity of the paintwork.
Once corrected, the paintwork was protected with a professional ceramic coating to help preserve the finish and make ongoing washing and maintenance easier.
The headlights also required attention.
After restoring the external lens surfaces and improving their clarity, Paint Protection Film was applied over the headlights.
This adds a clear sacrificial layer over the restored surface, helping protect it against UV exposure, road contamination, stone chips and light surface damage. On a freshly restored headlight, PPF is one of the most effective ways of helping prevent external yellowing and oxidation from returning.

The project also extended underneath the car.
Cleaning the underside removes accumulated road contamination and allows vulnerable areas to be inspected before protection is applied. For cars that are driven regularly throughout the year, underbody protection can be particularly worthwhile due to repeated exposure to moisture, road salt and grime.
This gave the Alpina a more complete level of protection rather than concentrating solely on the visible paintwork.
Cars such as the Alpina D3 combine BMW familiarity with considerably more exclusivity, making sympathetic detailing particularly important.
Our approach is always based on the individual condition of the vehicle. Some cars require only a light polish and protection, while others benefit from more extensive paint correction, headlight restoration, PPF or additional preventative work.
With more than 20 years of hands-on detailing experience, all work is completed at our dedicated studio in Finchampstead, near Reading and Wokingham.
